Familial Dysautonomia (FD) is a rare genetic, neurological condition that affects the sensory and autonomic nervous systems, causing severe gastrointestinal, cardiac, pulmonary, orthopedic, renal and ophthalmologic problems. although the gene that causes FD has been identified and genetic therapies exist, treatments are exorbitantly expensive. The Dysautonomia Foundation funds care for people with FD throughout the world. A growing portion of funding is obtained through philanthropic organizations, corporate contributions and government grants, but the majority of funding is acquired through private donations.
